Two lives saved
Chris was in Sofia, Bulgaria when he got a phone call from James, a young teenage boy living in Brittany, a member of a family Chris knew well. He clearly wanted to talk and asked Chris if he could call in that weekend so they could have a "man to man" chat. Unfortunately Chris was fully occupied with refugee children and promised to call in as soon as he could.
In the middle of the night a young Syrian boy taken in by the family rang Chris whispering down the phone that he was scared of what James might do to himself.
Chris answered this cry for help and immediately returned to France to the family home to meet with James. The next morning James and his boyfriend Kevin came out to Chris as gay and later that day Chris supported James and Kevin to come out to their parents.
Months later Kevin explained that the two of them had planned their suicide for the day after Chris had arrived. They had written their goodbyes, got the ropes, they would use the barn at the back of James's home and they would embrace each other and then kick the chairs away so that they would die together.
Kevin then said "but then you turned up and made everything alright".
